This is the story of a young artist from Ukraine, Evgeniy Lapchenko, who accepts a sudden offer to come across the globe to San Francisco. He is commissioned to create an extraordinary art project, in which art and high technologies will merge together. Without much hesitation, he hops on a plane — for the first time in his life — and arrives in San Francisco, where he takes residence in a former Catholic Cathedral. His big adventure starts here. Evgeniy’s idea for the painting is to reinterpret “The Garden of Earthly Delights“ by Hieronymus Bosch. He will paint it even bigger in size and fill it with idols and icons of modern society, such as Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Dalai Lama, Damien Hurst, Tupac Shakur, and so on, and so forth. As a true artist, Evgeniy often looks for inspiration in life’s simple pleasures: enjoying the beautiful views of San Francisco, drinking alcohol, making new acquaintances, many of them homeless people, and exploring new styles in his art. In the course of his journey he will lose his accommodation and nearly become homeless himself; he will have a personal art exhibition but won’t sell any paintings; he will spend all of his savings and resort to working on construction sites; he will make new friends, fall in love, and accidentally meet Richard Branson. Will he finish his project and achieve the American dream, or will he fail and go back to Kiev?

Director's Statement

I make films because I can’t stop telling stories. Everywhere I look I see and hear unbelievable characters, strange coincidences, curious places, and catchphrases. All of this comes together to form my little magic world, which I am constantly trying to transfer to the screen and make believable, so that others would fall in love with it, too. Cinema helps me look for and find like-minded people, fight fears, broaden my own horizons and try to relax rigid social norms. Please join me in my film-making game, because without it the world is just way too serious!
