Synopsis

Padma is a movie that depict a horrifying tell of costume (chhaupadi) practice in the rural village of Nepal. Although the law of Nepal has abandoned on it. According to the culture, a girl or woman during the mensuration process need to stay in a animal shed for 5 days. Logline: - A Young girl with the gift of number of struggle to stay in a society where the dignity of women is sold with cultural norm and value. padma has won best short film on os nepal award and indigoma film festival

Director's Statement

Padma Short movie is about a Young girl with the gift of number of struggle to stay in a society where the dignity of women is sold with cultural norm and value. "PADMA is a movie about harsh reality of women in western Nepal" The taboo, which has its roots in Hinduism, is called chhaupadi, from the Nepali words meaning someone who bears an impurity. During women’s periods, it bars them from touching neighbors’ food or entering temples. They cannot use communal water sources or kitchen utensils. It is considered bad luck to touch them. Every year more then 11 girls die and infected due to such practice.
