Synopsis
Shanta lingers on what could have become of her life if she had been born a boy. Witnessing the frustrations of her married friends, she chooses to remain single and takes on the financial responsibility of her ailing father’s care on her own.
Director's Statement
As a women, Shanta's story is personal to me. All of the pressures she feels stem from the systemic violence of traditional gender roles in her society. Her story may seem small, but I see Shanta's actions as quietly bold, resisting a system of gendered oppression.
