Nepal International Film Festival – Our Story
The 9th Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) 2026 will take place from 5–9 March across the Kathmandu Valley, continuing a journey that began in 2018.
What started in Pokhara as a small, passionate initiative has grown into Nepal’s premier film event, dedicated to elevating cinema as an artform and nurturing a vibrant, curious, and conscious film culture. Over eight past editions, NIFF has screened 700+ films, connected with 3,000+ international filmmakers, involved 6,000+ Nepali filmmakers, and engaged more than 50,000 audience members, all united by a passion for storytelling and independent cinema.
Held annually across major venues including QFX Cinemas and the Nepal Tourism Board, NIFF has become a trusted platform for discovering outstanding Nepali and global films, interacting with industry leaders, and experiencing five days of meaningful artistic dialogue. Each year features 80+ films from 30+ countries, workshops, masterclasses, panel talks, and ample networking opportunities, attracting 1,000+ filmmakers and over 10,000 audiences, enthusiasts and media guests.
Beyond just a festival, NIFF is also a cultural movement. Its impact is rooted in cinema, art, and education. NIFF has consistently worked towards uplifting young storytellers, expanding public access to world cinema, and cultivating an ecosystem where artistic expression and creative learning thrive.
As NIFF enters its ninth edition, our mission remains the same: to champion stories, inspire minds, and strengthen Nepal’s place in the global cinematic conversation.
Our Reality Today
As we approach our 9th edition, NIFF remains dedicated to connecting diverse films and artists from Nepal and around the world. But sustaining this work is increasingly difficult. As a non-profit dependent on public and private support, economic pressures caused by recent political turmoil in Nepal have made sponsorship harder to secure. However, we remain committed to keeping NIFF open and a home for creativity, dialogue, and artistic freedom. And we need your support to continue.
How You Can Help
This year, we are turning to the community that believes in the power and social good of independent cinema, and of making valuable connections with artists, filmmakers and audiences. Your support ensures NIFF continues to educate, uplift, and inspire the next generation of storytellers.
Your contribution directly powers programs such as:
• South Asian and Student Film Competitions
• Educational Screenings in schools and public spaces
• Hands-on Film Labs and workshops, including emerging technologies
• Daily Filmmakers’ Mixers and networking events
• Free Event Passes for students
Every donation, big or small, keeps NIFF accessible, vibrant, and true to its mission. Thank you for standing with us, for supporting our work and helping us move forward into NIFF 2026.
