The Red Grave

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT What does war bring to life? Is it really necessary? Isn’t there any better solution? In whose heart is this violence born? Is war destruction or construction? These questions occupied my mind when Nepal passed through nine years and nine months of civil war from 1996 to 2006 and 17,000 Nepalese lost their lives. The tragedy left a deep impression on me when I was in my late teens. The Red Grave is the story of our deep unfulfilled desire for a better future, which was promised to us. It showcases the corruption at the heart of war in the name of revolution. Further, it examines the autocracy of communist ideology from the point of two young rebels, who are the witnesses and become victims of the war. More importantly, it questions the violation of human rights of putting children at war. The Red Grave is a social critique of and satire towards human existence.
