Inverno (Timo's winter)

Timo, the youngest of a Greek community of Funfair workers, will have to face the hardest winter together with his loved ones.

Time heals wounds, they say. On the other hand, I think that the loss of a mother is a cut from which there is no recovery. That scratch is the winter of the title. When I shot Inverno (Timo's winter) I had just turned 36. When my mother died she was 35. I was past her age and this is the reason for my final dedication to a mother “who will be young forever”. "Inverno (Timo’s winter)" is a memory, the memory of that winter when my mother died after a long and serious illness. I was seven and I was totally unprepared to face such pain. The winter of the story is a metaphor for the pain of loss. For me, that moment represented the beginning of my journey of searching for the meaning of life. Timo, the little protagonist of the film, takes a path of research that starts from the observation of the world he knows and the people around him, a path that will lead him to discover something more about the life of adults. He will find himself inevitably making a sudden leap from the world of children to that of grown-ups when he understands how difficult it is to lose a person you love. The film ends with a thought: winter will end sooner or later but its passage will still have left a deep mark. The story of the short film is autobiographical except for the setting. I needed to find that intimacy and truth that could take me back to my childhood. I identified all this in the Funfair workers family of actor and close friend Giulio Beranek, who in "Inverno (Timo’s winter)" plays Timo’s young father. The world of Funfairs in my story is represented on a winter dimension, where everything is off, still, and struggles to reactivate and return to its normal function. Thus becoming a metaphor for pain that is part of that Funfair’s ride that life is. The meeting with Giulio's family was really special. I rediscovered the sense of family in the deepest meaning, the bond between human beings who love each other and take care of each other, who respect each other. And this is also what my film is about: deep love and family. "Inverno (Timo’s winter)" is dedicated to my mother but also to all those who have lost an important person in life.
