Synopsis
"Urmi" is a moving Nepali documentary that tells the story of Purna Bahadur Gurung, an 80-year-old British Gurkha veteran, as he grapples with the loss of his only son, Bimal Gurung, who died 34 years ago. Bimal was a passionate reader, poet, and budding journalist in Nepal. The grief was so overwhelming that Purna Bahadur decided to convert his house into a public library in honor of his son, who loved books. For the last 34 years, Gurung has been tirelessly running the Poet Bimal Gurung Memorial Library in Dharan, almost single-handedly, as a way to keep his son's memory alive. The film explores grief, loss, and the healing power of remembrance and legacy.
