Synopsis
Subedar Niranjan Singh Chettri was the first Gurkha soldier from Uttarakhand to sacrifice his life while protecting the sovereignty of Manipur during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, also known as the Khongjom War. He served as a Subedar in the forces of General Tikendrajit Singh of the Manipur Kingdom. Despite being a British subject, he chose to fight against the British colonial forces alongside the Manipuris.
