Synopsis

Jimmy, an American Bhutanese food anthropology student, returns to Bhutan after twenty years. His mother, Jane, once ran the pioneering restaurant Pelbue before abruptly leaving Bhutan with Jimmy, but without her stepdaughter, Yangchen. Jane had married Karma, an artist with Yangchen from a previous relationship, becoming a mother figure to both Yangchen and Aryatara, the daughter of her staff. Jane's sudden departure left scars. Yangchen, feeling abandoned, grew up a loner, finding solace in Bhutan’s landscapes under the loving care of Angay, whose home overflowed with warmth and food. Back in Bhutan, Jimmy stays with Angay and attempts to reconnect with the now distant Yangchen. Karma, heartbroken by Jimmy’s emotional distance, struggles to rebuild their relationship. Jimmy’s bond with Aryatara rekindles effortlessly; she has transformed Pelbue into a thriving restaurant despite hardships. As Jimmy bridges the gaps within his fractured family using food as the unifying thread, he helps Yangchen and Karma rediscover their bond and brings Angay and Aryatara closer. In a climactic twist, Jimmy reveals a hidden family secret, shocking everyone but ultimately drawing them together, healing long- held wounds and forging a stronger family bond.
