As Day Goes By

Born in the Everest region of Nepal, Ngima Gelu Sherpa is a photographer turned independent filmmaker and educator based in Kathmandu. He has taken on multiple roles, including writer, director, producer, cinematographer, and editor, for his films showcased and awarded at dozens of festivals, including International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Uppsala Short Film Festival, Yamagata Documentary film festival, DMZ Docs, New Orleans Film Festival, and Reykjavík International Film Festival, among others. As a lecturer, Sherpa has taught courses on film studies, film production, media studies and photojournalism. He earned a Master’s degree in fiction film direction at Kino Eyes: The European Movie Masters program (Lusofona University, Edinburgh Napier University & Tallinn University), with a full Erasmus Plus scholarship. He is also an alumnus of Rotterdam Lab and has participated in Berlinale Talents and Locarno Open Doors Consultancy. In 2023, he served as the convenor of the National Conference on Filmmaking in Nepal.
