The Housekeeper

Surya Balakrishnan most recently directed two episodes of the critically acclaimed Amazon Original series Khauf. A graduate in Graphic Design from the College of Fine Arts, Bangalore, Surya later honed her filmmaking skills at the New York Film Academy. She went on to co-found Footloose Films, a production company primarily focused on advertising. Over the years, she has directed more than 100 television commercials. Though advertising remains her mainstay, one of her most cherished projects is the short documentary Right Forward, which chronicles the inspiring journey of 12 young girls from Dharavi, Mumbai, as they travel to San Francisco to participate in a soccer camp. She is currently completing her first feature documentary, Amarkatha, an eco-political film set in Kashmir that explores the complexities surrounding the Amarnath pilgrimage. The project was awarded the prestigious Bitchitra Film Fund and mentorship.
