Synopsis

Adapted from “The Epic of King Gesar”, the film tells the story of a young hero who undergoes numerous trials after being framed and sent to a foreign land, masters skills, and remains steadfast in protecting justice and his homeland. Ultimately, he grows into King Gesar, a legendary figure who punishes evil and safeguards the people. The film skillfully blends Thangka aesthetics with the unique scenery of the Tibetan Plateau and has been selected as an excellent film by the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party and nominated for Best Art Film at the Golden Rooster Awards.

Director

Lu Qi, a graduate of the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, is a director at Changchun Film Studio and a National First-Class Art Designer. He is renowned for blending visual artistry with cinematic storytelling. Early in his career, he won the Golden Rooster and Flying Apsaras awards for his art design on classics like Emperor Tang Minghuang and Yang Guifei. In 2014, he was honored as one of the "Top Ten Television Directors in China." His directorial portfolio includes the film One-Leaf Lotus (Huabiao Award winner) and epic TV series such as Mazu, Eastern Battlefield, and The Merchants of Hongjiang. He also contributed art design to masterpieces like Kangxi Dynasty. He specializes in integrating traditional Chinese culture with strong visual expression and refined historical storytelling. Warrior King is his representative animated film.
