8th Nepal Intl. Film Festival (NIFF) from Chaitra 7-11 (March 20-24, 2025), 87 Films from 40 Countries to be Screened

As in previous years, we are honored to announce that the eighth edition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF), organized by the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy, will take place from Chaitra 7th to 11th (March 20-24, 2025). Just like previous years, the festival will showcase outstanding films from various corners of the world. It will also include interesting and meaningful discussions on contemporary issues with local and international filmmakers, high-level politicians, and respected personalities from society, as well as various masterclasses and workshops.
We would like to inform you that 87 films from 40 countries have been selected from over 600 films received from 70 countries for the eighth edition of NIFF. Many of these selected films have already been screened at prestigious festivals like Busan, Cannes, Locarno, Berlinale and other.
The festival will be categorized into national and international sections, with awards being distributed to the best feature films, short films, and documentaries under both categories. Embracing technological advancements and providing the audience with a fresh experience, we are excited to announce that this year, a new competition will be added for films related to AI (Artificial Intelligence) or made using AI technologies. We are confident that this will introduce the audience to new technologies and trends in cinema and storytelling in a unique way.
This year, the films to be screened during the festival will be showcased at the QFX Cinema venues at Civil Mall and Chhaya Center. We have continued our collaboration with QFX Cinemas for this year as well. Various discussions and debates will be held under the banner of NIFF FORUM at Nepal Tourism Board and Rastriya Sabha Griha (City Hall), Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Under the international competition, the best feature film will be awarded the Gautam Buddha Award along with a cash prize of USD 1,500 and NIFF TROPHY. Similarly, 12 international and 4 national feature films will be eligible for the prestigious IFFS Don Quixote Award from the International Federation of Film Societies (IFFS). The best international documentary will be awarded the Mount Everest Award with a cash prize of USD 1,000 and trophy, and the best international short film will receive the Bagmati Award with a cash prize of USD 500 and trophy. Additionally, the best film in the Artificial Intelligence category will be awarded the Manjushree Award with a cash prize of USD 500 and trophy.
In the Nepali competition section, the best feature film will receive a cash prize of NPR 100,000 and a trophy, while the best short film and best documentary will receive NPR 50,000 each with respective trophies. From the national short film category, the best director will receive a trophy, and trophies will also be awarded to the best director, writer, cinematographer, actor, and actress in the feature film category of national competition.
The list of selected films for the festival is included with this press release. As in previous years, we remain optimistic that during the festival, we will receive the support and cooperation of movie lovers, filmmakers, and journalists for the grand success of the event.
